In March 2022, under the motto “Switch ON” Yamaha announced its plans to enter the electromobility segment through its own products. Following the launch of the first electric scooter in April 2022, Yamaha will offer three models of e-Bikes for sale in Switzerland from May 2023. The e-Bikes will be sold under the agency model distribution concept exclusively through the Yamaha selected dealer network (YEEC) in combination with the Yamaha online shop, where all orders will be processed.
30 years of experience in electric bicycle propulsion
Yamaha is one of the pioneers in the development of electric vehicles. This goes back to the first “Power Assist System” (PAS) in the early 1990s, which saw the birth of the first mass-produced electric bicycle. Since then, Yamaha has established itself as the leading producer of compact, lightweight electric motors for many bicycle manufacturers. Over 3 decades, the brand has sold some 7 million units.
Electric bikes made entirely by Yamaha
Now Yamaha is taking the step towards becoming a global house brand and is introducing three electric bikes, the Moro 07, Wabash RT and CrossCore RC, for the E-MTB, Gravel and Urban segments respectively.
Sales through Yamaha motorbike dealers and the Yamaha online shop
The e-bikes will be sold under the agency model distribution concept, exclusively through the selected Yamaha dealer network (YEEC) in combination with the Yamaha online shop, where all orders will be processed. In both cases, the customer decides whether to pick up the electric bike from the dealer or to have it delivered directly to their home. The e-bikes can be viewed and tested in advance at Yamaha e-Bike Experience Centres. All e-bikes are stored at our logistics partner Zibatra, so delivery time is 5 to 7 days. Zibatra is also responsible for the ready-to-ride assembly of the e-bikes for customers, and Yamaha has published a special video tutorial on YouTube to help customers set-up their bike to their specific needs.
